Who's Fresh: Jenna Calvano

Name: Jenna Calvano
Age: 17… and a half ![]()
Height: 5’7.5”
Hair: brownish-black
Eyes: blue
Hometown: Ottawa
Birth sign: Scorpio
Background: 100% Italian
Modeling since Age: I started off Angie’s with acting, and took Lou’s talent workshops when I was 12, but Angie encouraged me to start modeling when I booked Abercrombie at 13 years old.
How discovered: Good ol’ open call at Angie’s
Awkward Modeling Moment: When I was shooting a Sunsilk commercial in Thailand, I had to play the part of an Asian girl. My look was close enough, but they had to camouflage my blue eyes with brown contact lenses. I had never worn contact lenses before, so I struggled to put them in. So, around 10 Thai people took a shot at putting these contact lenses in my eyes. An extra on the set was finally successful- but with the language barrier, we didn’t even exchange one word. No words, just her fingers poking and touching my eyeballs.
Most Embarrassing Runway Mishap: It was actually my first runway show and I was styled in a beautiful Roberto Cavalli blouse. Right as I was about to step on the runway, the stylist unbuttoned all the buttons (definitely not the way I wore it at the fitting!), insisting that it looked better. I took my first step, and a huge gust of wind (from the fan at the end of the runway) blew the blouse right off my shoulders and down to my wrists! Thankfully, I was wearing a bra- and that’s what I walked the rest of the runway in!
Most Bizarre Modeling Experience: That would definitely be shooting maternity-wear when I was in China. I even had to wear a huge fake prego-belly! I was 15 at the time, so I don’t know if I was a believable soon-to-be mother.
Favorite things: Being with loved ones (family and friends), traveling, modeling, acting, music… and the food network <3 haha seriously.
Favorite music, bands: Basically every type of rock, but my favorites have to be: Rancid, the Ramones, Sublime, Foo Fighters, Modest Mouse, the Strokes, illScarlett and the Clash.
Favorite designers/models: I love Michael Kors, and can’t live without my MK sunglasses. I also adore Dsquared…but could never afford any of their designs. Carmen Kass and Caroline Trentini have to be my favorite models. They’re beautiful, amazing models- and they’re a healthy size!
Favorite foods: I usually opt for healthy food, but my nonna’s lasagna has to be my favorite treat. No one beats nonna’s cookin’.
Hobbies: Well, I’m a black belt and I teach Karate, so I enjoy training- but I also do a lot of kickboxing and boxing, and I even teach cardio kickboxing classes. I absolutely love going in the boxing ring and working off some steam.
Style after work and at play: Jeans and a fitted tee. Classic.
Movie you want to see next: I know that it’s not coming out until August, but I can’t wait to see Inglourious Basterds. It’s directed by Quentin Tarantino- my favorite director of all time. (He directed Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill (1 and 2), Reservoir Dogs, Death Proof…)
Most Embarrassing songs on your iPod: Oh man, there are definitely a few… I actually have a song called “Jesus is my friend” by a cheesy 80’s band called Sonseed. “Rasputin” by Boney M is on there too. I also have a lot of crooners, like: Frank Sinatra, Michael Bublé and Dean Martin. Some people laugh, but I think crooners are sooo cool.
Dreams and Goals: I’m off to university this fall, so my short term goal is to keep my scholarship and to generally succeed academically. As for modeling, I have many ambitions: I want to continue my travels all over Asia and shoot more commercials
Finally, I aspire to learn an instrument! I love music, and would love to be musically inclined. Haha
About Angie’s - your agency/booker: Angie and Lou…simply put, they are the best. Angie is truly a gem- she is so much more than an agent to me; she’s like a second mother! There really aren’t enough people like her in the world, and I feel very blessed to be one of her girls <3. Angie’s positive and encouraging nature, as well as Lou’s workshops, guided me right from the start and gave me the confidence necessary to know that I can succeed in this industry. Thanks Angie and Lou, love you both.
