NORTH HOLLYWOOD - They came from the East Coast, the Midwest, the South and the West Coast. And they arrived from the East, West and parts in-between in Canada. But even though their accents may be a little different, they all have one thing in common. They are current child and teen stars, active in feature films and TV shows that aired throughout 2009.
And one of these talented youngsters is our very own Alex Cardillo, who was nominated for his work on Durham County Season 2, and attended the Gala Ceremony in Hollywood, LA. Although he did not win his category, BEST PERFORMANCE IN A TV SERIES Recurring Young Actor 13 and Under , he was very honoured to have been chosen from submissions from many other highly talented young actors.
The 31st Annual Young Artist Awards was held on April 11 at the Beverly Garland Holiday Inn Hotel in North Hollywood. The ceremony was another dream-come-true for Maureen Dragone whose late mother was among those who founded The Golden Globes.
Over the years she has been agitated with the Academy Awards, Golden Globes and Emmys for looking the other way when it came to child stars. For no-matter how good these young performances were, seldom did they ever get nominated. Yet in the few times they did they were often up against Hollywood’s most experienced mega-stars. So Dragone changed all that three decades ago by establishing the non-profit Young Artist Awards. And for the past 31 years the organization has honored only those young stars under the age of 18, among them Drew Barrymore, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ricky
Schroder and Shia LaBeouf.
When asked about his trip, Alex said ..
“It was very exciting and fun, with a lot of press and interviews. I also got to meet some agents and people interested in my work, which was a great encouragement. But really, the most important was being able to live my passion, and recognised by my peers that I am able to do it well enough to be nominated amongst other highly talented young actors. It was also a great honour to have been able to represent Angies all the way in LA - I was proud to have come from Canada for this important event".
What a tremendous honour and recognition for Alex to have been nominated for the first part he booked! We KNOW there will be many more!
